Video Clip 1

Video Transcript

The Information that we have is that among students of Architecture there's quite a high proportion of students with dyslexia, and so very early on we decided that we were going to address dyslexia issues and we did this in a number of ways. One of the ways was that we were going to use a lot of rich media - well we were going to do that anyway so that wasn't really a problem. We used 3D graphics, we used 2D graphics, we used drawings, and we used video clips.

Basically we wanted to underline the message of the whole package, which is about the communication inherent within a drawing. We kept the text to a minimum, we tried to make it clear and clean. Something we did to help the readability aspect of the package was to provide a choice of different colours for the background of the text, so you can have it white or you can select from a number of different light pastel tones to reduce the contrast. The text itself wasn't actually black; it was a dark blue.

Also, where there were video clips, we always provided a printable transcript. Another point about creating this learning package as a CD Rom was that it was felt that it would benefit all students, but possibly students with dyslexia in particular, that they could actually study it in their own time.
