Impaired Field of Vision

This covers any visual impairment the result of which is a reduction in the area that a person can see. Macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, scotoma and glaucoma are examples of diseases of the eye that specifically affect the field of vision. Problems can be experienced in either, or both of, peripheral or central fields of vision.

People who have reduced peripheral vision are likely to find it very difficult to see in dim light, hence reduced peripheral vision is also linked to "night-blindness". People with reduced central vision may find it difficult to read or to recognise faces.
