Project Background

The Skills for Access project was funded over a two-year period by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) as one of 24 projects funded to develop and enhance learning and teaching for disabled students. The projects under this funding strand were administered and supported by the National Disability Team

The initial development of Skills for Access started in February 2003 and was completed in April 2005. The plan is to maintain and develop the resource as:

  1. A useful resource providing practical and up-to-date advice on techniques and methodologies for using multimedia to support learning for disabled students
  2. A showcase of best practice by practitioners in the field

Project Aim

The aim of the project is simple - to create an online resource providing informed, practical and pragmatic advice and information on multimedia, accessibility and learning. This is supported by a series of general articles by experts in the field and case studies documenting real life experiences in creating multimedia to enhance the accessibility of e-learning.

Despite the learning focus, we hope that the information we provide is of use to anyone interested in creating optimally accessible multimedia.
